      <image:title>Bio - Hi,</image:title>
<image:caption>My name is Alyssa Hildebrand, and I am a voice teacher in Southern Manitoba. Born and raised in Crystal City, MB, I had the opportunity to develop and grow my own musicianship across this province. I am thrilled to be offering voice and music lessons in Winkler, Steinbach, and Winnipeg. This province has a rich history of music making, and I am so grateful to have been steeped in these traditions. I am excited to be working with developing musicians in this area to help them understand the power of their voices! I enjoy teaching students of all ages and abilities. Although my expertise is in classical voice and musical theater, I try to encourage my students to experiment with a wide variety of musical genres. My primary goal is to help each student reach their personal goals. If you have any questions at all about my teaching style, or questions about voice lessons, you can contact me here. For more information about my career and background, please feel free to keep reading!</image:caption>

<image:caption>Alyssa has been teaching for several years, and works with students of many different levels and abilities. She works as a private voice teacher independently in Winkler, through the Steinbach Arts Council, and the Community School of Music and the Arts (CSMA) at Canadian Mennonite University. At CSMA she has had the opportunity to teach individual voice students, group classes, and lead a voice masterclass in February of 2020. Prior to the pandemic, she worked at Providence University College as an instructor of music. She returned to Manitoba after completing her Master of Music degree in Literature and Performance at Western University, studying with Jackalyn Short. Prior to this she attended Canadian Mennonite University where she received a Bachelor of Music with a concentration in vocal performance, studying with David Klassen. Throughout both of these degrees, Alyssa had the opportunity to take courses on vocal pedagogy and early music education. Alyssa has a keen interest in understanding the workings of the vocal mechanism, and is passionate about continuing her education. She became a member of the Manitoba chapter of NATS, after attending their international NATS conference in the summer of 2020. She is also working towards being certified with the Association for Body Mapping Education.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Philosophy of Teaching - find your voice.</image:title>
<image:caption>When I was in my undergraduate degree, I was asked to develop a personal philosophy of music education, and became fascinated by this phrase. I was intrigued by the simplicity and broadness of this sentiment. Find Your Voice. It wasn’t until I went to a choral concert lead by my high school choral director, Rick Heppner-Mueller, when I realized that I had first learned this phrase from him. Throughout my life, my career as a performer and teacher has been informed by so many different teachers and musicians. Voice teachers, choral directors, piano teachers, coaches, acting teachers, dance instructors, English teachers and so many others. Each of these people have helped me to discover the power of my own voice. My job as a voice teacher is to empower my students to use their own voices. This is the centerpiece of my philosophy of voice education. More specifically, my job is to help students understand their instruments, to develop smart musicianship, and to nurture their artistry. All of these things can help someone find their voice.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Philosophy of Teaching - Understanding Your INstrument</image:title>
<image:caption>The creation of vocal tone is dependent on the instrument of the individual. My job is to help each student learn how their instrument works, so that they can use their instrument in a healthy, efficient way to create beautiful sound. This understanding will empower the singer to experiment in a variety of styles and genres.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Philosophy of Teaching - developing smart Musicianship</image:title>
<image:caption>Developing smart musicianship involves training the skills of sight reading, ear training, and understanding the basics of music theory and history. This helps us to collaborate with other performers and gives us a deeper understanding of the tradition of music making we are participating in.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Philosophy of Teaching - Nurturing the artist</image:title>
<image:caption>Above all, singing is an art form. To develop artistry, we must explore storytelling, have an understanding of the context of the music we are performing, and experiment with musical elements. These skills will help us to create engaging performances.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Music Theory</image:title>
<image:caption>MUSIC THEORY An understanding of Music Theory is an essential element for all developing musicians. This understanding will help you connect deeper with the music you are studying and performing. This skill is easily transferred to any other instrument you would like to explore. Integrated: Music Theory will be included in all voice lessons to some degree. For those interested in a formal study of music theory, this can be accommodated by request. For those interested in this, I would recommend signing up for 45 minute or 60 minute lessons. Independent: This course is designed for those who are interested in studying music theory independent of voice lessons, and is catered to the goals of the student. This is for anyone interested pursuing music further in any instrument, for those prepping for an RCM exam, or those interested in learning more about music theory. These lessons can be in-person or online.</image:caption>
